Fast-rising dancehall entertainer Masicka is looking to make his mark this summer in a big way. The 20-year-old entertainer has been recording for about four years now and has several singles already enjoying solid airplay on local radio. This, he said, is just the first step to bigger things.
The Calabar high school old boy has been busy in the studio working with some of the biggest names in the industry including Don Corleone, for whom he recorded Talk, and TJ Records on which he recorded Baddist, that has been doing well on the airwaves. He also has a song in the pipeline, Touch Her Mek She Fall Inna Love on the 'Peenie Wallie' rhythm, and he has recorded other songs for Cash Flow Records as well as Equanox.
Going into the busy party season, there are quite a few summer songs that selectors and disc jocks believe are doing well.
Among the top songs for ZJ Ice are I-Octane's We Love The Vibes and Popcaan's Summer Wave. He says there are also nice songs from Bugle and Blak Ryno, while Cashflow Records' Sun Tan rhythm is also doing well.
International superstars Trey Songz and R Kelly have been added to the 20th anniversary staging of Reggae Sumfest, set to take place from July 15-21 at Catherine Hall in Montego Bay.
Trey Songz is set to take the stage on July 20 (International Night 1), and will be followed by the controversial R Kelly on July 21 (International Night 2). "R Kelly was so disappointed with not being able to come to Sumfest last year that we spent the whole year trying to work out a make-up date, which was Reggae Sumfest 2012," said Sumfest organiser, Johnny Gourzong, when questioned about the artiste in this year's line-up. Apparently, while the public was unaware of it, Trey Songz was also to have been part of last year's show.
Veteran dancehall artiste Ninja Man has severed ties with his manager Chyna, citing that he wants more interest to be placed in his career.
According to the artiste, Chyna is a nice woman, however, he is not seeing the benefits of their musical collaboration.
"A nuh really split but she cyah manage mi career. I am dealing with my thing until I get people who can deal with it the way I want it to move," Ninja Man said.

It wasn't quite the usual Friday for dancehall entertainer Aidonia who took part in the recent charity effort organised by Janelle Gordon at The Sir John Golding Rehabilitation Centre (formerly the Mona Rehabilitation Centre) on Friday.
The artiste believes that charity efforts play an important role in giving back to the community and society for all the support they receive.
Local Rum brand Rum Fire, has decided to absorb the recent tax on overproof rum that was recently implemented by the Jamaican Government.
According to the director of brand Rum Fire, Christelle Harris, partygoers will not experience an increase in the price for Rum Fire Rum because of Jamaica's 50th anniversary celebrations and out of concern for the consumers who are in a party mode.

The duo, which have been together for three years and have a one-year-old son, recently released their latest collab single titled Bounce and Study.
According to Flexxx, the single encourages schoolers to stay in school.
"The song Bounce and Study is on the Mattrass rhythm which was produced by Markus records. Bounce and Study is the edit version and its basically telling females fi stay in school and study dem book. Don't put man in front of education," Flexxx said.
Like the once powerful Gaza Camp, Mavado's Gullyside appears to be shrinking with the exit of another member, Savage, who was featured on the Christmas collaboration with Mavado called Gully Christmas.
According to Savage, the Flexx-led Fagan Fraternity and the Alliance are his only group affiliations.
Fagan Fraternity recently released a rhythm called the Dark Storm, which is an intended diss to Mavado's Gully Side, on which Savage recorded a song called Kill Bwoy Fi Nothing aimed at Mavado and Chase Cross.
"Deh song deh guh straight into the brain of the Gully, a Flexx mek mi know Mavado and from mi and Mavado duh Gully Christmas him shadow mi career," Savage said.
Dancehall artiste Specialist is now fuming after losing some house appliances and furniture following a feud with his girlfriend.
The feud reportedly started because of his girlfriend's jealousy and her belief that she was 'getting bun'. "Man a ghetto yute, mi start from nowhere and she hear say mi have woman and mash up di ting dem a mi yard. She go up deh when I wasn't home and mash up mi tv, mi wardrobe mirror and mi wall fan," Specialist said
Dancehall and Graffiti artiste LA Lewis has decided to try his hand at conceptual art. According to the popular dancehall personality, the LA Lewis brand has gone commercial and his aim is to exploit new ventures.
"Over the years I have noticed that everything I do always sell off. I notice that when I go in a place it always erupt and people always ask me for LA Lewis T-shirts mostly women, so that is the power of the LA Lewis brand, so I am doing new things with it," he said.
According LA Lewis, a popular businessman from China Town in the US, came to Jamaica and offered him US$500 (J$44,000) for his signature.

Dancehall artiste Moses 'Beenie Man' Davis and his manager/brother Rohan Smith, aka 'Blue', are mourning the loss of their father who is more affectionately known as 'Bragga'.
Information received is that he died at the University Hospital of The West Indies yesterday while undergoing treatment for a health complaint. According to sources close to the family, the death came as a shock to them and the general mood is one of sadness.
Beenie Man's ex-wife D'Angel, who also went to the hospital, described 'Bragga' as a jovial individual.
"Moses dad is somebody that I have met. He is a jovial and fun person. Condolence goes out to the family and we definitely lost a man that produced a legend. Moses just be strong and hold up your head. When I heard I went straight to the hospital to give my support because he is my child's grandfather and the father of my son's father," D'Angel said.
Since news broke of the death, several entertainers have shown support to the entertainer via tweets, sending their condolences.
Among them was Bounty Killer who tweeted, "Not so sure about this just got it ppl, Beenie Man father just died at University Hospital. Condolence goes out." And ZJ Sparks tweeted, "My sincerest condolences @KingBeenieMan to you and your family."
