Black Mattic shoots J$3-million music video!!!

Picture

New York-based dancehall artiste Black Mattic recently shot a music video for his hit single 'Superstar', with internationally renowned film crew Over the Edge Productions. The video concept brought the filming crew from a police chase scene in Brooklyn to Manhattan's high society, Central Park suites and VIP clubs all in one day. It's also tipped to be very exciting and successful.

Superstar, produced by Yo Dash Productions and released late March, has enjoyed reasonable success on both local and international airwaves since it premiered and because of this, the Jamaica-born Black Mattic, was encouraged to provide fans with a video for the single. In what he describes as "An attempt to change dancehall's image on the international market", Black Mattic decided to hire MTV Networks' producer Mike Leonard, who directed the music videos for Chris Brown's Oh Yeah and Walle's Slight Works hit singles.

The video, which consists of a US$450,000 Lamborghini Murcielago, reportedly cost the 24-year-old architect J$3 million. However, the former Norman Manley student told THE STAR that he wanted to help change the perception that dancehall artistes lacks imagination and boldness when shooting music videos. "I intend to set myself apart from any other dancehall artiste and also to let the world see that dancehall videos can be as competitive as the urban hip-hop stars and their music videos," he said.

Meanwhile, Leonard also spoke highly of the single Superstar, which he personally believes will achieve a lot of success if given time to develop. He also told THE STAR that it was a pleasure for him to work with Black Mattic, whose professional and direct approach sells him as a very different Jamaican artiste. "Working with Black Mattic was a great experience. He's obviously a very passionate and driven artiste who has a very clear vision, but he was also very trusting of my vision with the video, which allowed us to collaborate extremely well," he said. "Superstar was undoubtedly stuck in everyone's head after the shoot that day (May 6). It's an extremely catchy song that was well produced. It will definitely push boundaries within the dancehall genre and could easily make the top of the charts. Just give it time, you'll see." Black Mattic is also gearing up for the release of the much-anticipated Kingston 11 mix tape, which is expected to be ready by the end of June.
